I've just started a web design course in college and am looking for a notebook that would best suit the course. The cheaper the better. any ideas?

Depends on the needs of your course.
If you're learning straight HTML and CSS, any cheapo unit with a text editor will do. Get the best deal at Dell.
If you need to create Flash or multimedia content, look for one with a Core 2 Duo processor.
